Fun Ideas to Celebrate International Literacy Day

“There is no such thing as a child who hates to read;

there are only children who have not found the right book.” ― Frank Serafini

Today, September 8th,  is International Literacy Day, a day celebrated across the world under the theme of ‘Literacy in a digital world’.  The day is designed to showcase and remind us of the importance of literacy. One of the reasons literacy is important is because it empowers individuals and improves their lives by expanding their capabilities to choose a kind of life they can value.

International Literacy Day is also a day to celebrate literacy and to find fun ways to improve world literacy rates. At Kids Adventures in Africa, we write books about Africa so that we can introduce

children to a whole new world, and expand their imagination through vicarious travel.

Here are 3 ways you can create an interest in reading with your child today

  1. Listen to a read aloud book on our YouTube channel
  2. Read one of the Kids Adventures in Africa e-books
  3. Do fun, light activities related to reading and books like this one at STEM for Kids
